The Not-So-Impressive Time Travelers

Because I have never flown more than three time zones at one time in my entire life, figuring out our travel time and how it will relate to jet lag was a bit confusing for me.  I thought that because we were taking off on Thursday evening and landing on Saturday morning, that if we just slept on the plane, we'd be fine.  "Jet lag won't be a problem for us" I foolishly claimed.  Somehow, I thought that the flight was 12 hours long.

At first, I thought that we would skip an entire day, and it would somehow fall into the time vortex, never to be seen again.  But this, like most things that men mess up on, was only because I didn't read the directions closely enough.  That day, which I thought would just disappear because of how we were spinning around the world, is actually being absorbed into our wearied bodies.  I thought our flight from JFK to Singapore was 12 hours long...but...it's actually 19 hours long.

19 hours.

I don't know about you, but I am incapable of sleeping for 19 hours straight.  Maybe when I was in my prime I could do that, but I am an old man now, and I wake up at all hours of the night.

Jet lag is going to be rough.  I am very, very scared.

  1. Yeah, jetlag is rough. I recommend taking some melatonin on the plane with you and definitely don't nap when you get there! It is much quicker to deal with if you fight through it for one day. My flight from LAX to Guangzhou was 14 hours and I couldn't sleep the whole time... Good luck with it! Although you'll probably be so excited just to be there that you won't want to nap anyway.
